Programs for Paraprofessionals

The Essential Paraprofessional
The number of paraprofessionals working in our schools and agencies continues to grow. The range of responsibilities for these individuals has expanded greatly. Training and preparation, unfortunately, have not kept up with the need. This full day workshop explores the role and the responsibilities of the paraprofessional. It also addresses practical skills that every paraprofessional needs to perform successfully. Seven basic skill areas from reinforcement and behavior to ethics are covered. This workshop will provide a foundation for the paraprofessional's future development.

David Freschi working with a student. The 1:1 Para-Educator: Using the Resource Wisely
The use of 1:1 Para-Educators continues to grow as more and more children with special needs are served in the schools. The position of 1:1 can be greatly beneficial to students or, managed incorrectly, can be extremely hazardous to a student's progress and growth. Placing the 1:1 aide in a position without adequate training runs the very real risk of serious problems for the student, the district, the teacher, and the family. This workshop can help to reduce that risk. It offers a broad range of strategies and approaches that can maximize the effectiveness of the 1:1 paraprofessional.

New! The Para-Educator Training and Coaching Package
This service consists of two full day workshops during the school year. One workshop includes the supervising teacher and the para-educators. In addition, a series of coaching consultations are conducted throughout the year by an SGI consultant. These visits focus on developing the
essential skills needed to successfully perform their teaching duties. At the conclusion of the year the Para-Educators involved will demonstrate improved skills, practical knowledge, and function more successfully as a member of the education team.
