This is a seminar style workshop that presents and helps participants develop practical strategies for addressing challenges in these areas.

Now What Do I do?
Strategies for Teaching children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

This is a 20-hour course designed for the teacher or advanced paraprofessional and others who work with these children. The course is usually conducted over a ten-week period. The unique learning characteristics of children with Autism or similar disabilities are addressed. A wide range of practical classroom strategies is examined. As with all of our courses and training, real solutions that are "next day" usable are stressed.

Advanced Strategies for Students with Autism, Asperger's, or Related Challenges
This ten-hour course can be conducted as a workshop or as a five part series. Leading edge and tried and proven strategies are considered. Practical approaches for classroom, home, and community are developed. The course is geared for teachers, advanced paraprofessionals and supervisors.

Building Independence
Prompt dependency and learned helplessness are a real risk for students with a variety of disabilities. They can limit opportunities, growth, and participation in the school and the community. Unfortunately we can inadvertently promote prompt dependency through careless teaching and fading techniques. This workshop will provide participants with the ability to recognize prompt dependency issues and to develop real, practical interventions. They will also become familiar with the range of prompts, cues, and signals that are common in the educational setting and their effective use and limitations.

Applications of Discrete Trial Tactics
Discrete trials are one small part of a sound Applied Behavioral Analysis approach. All to often we end up with an unpleasant intervention that does not result in good generalization of skills. In this workshop we provide participants with a number of ways to use discrete trial training, including the Short Burst model that are functional, pleasant, and effective. In addition, applications for the general curriculum will be explored. Participants will learn and practice a number of techniques and develop plans for their own students.

Designing the Classroom Environment for the Student with ASD
This workshop provides participants with a wide range of ideas for providing adaptations to lessons, materials, and teaching to support the student With ASD whether in a special classroom or an inclusive setting. Organizing and structuring environment, lessons and activities will be covered.

Inclusion Challenges for the Student with ASD
Inclusion is more than sitting in a classroom with a 1:1 aide. Students with ASD face a number of challenges throughout their educational career, as do those charged with their education. We have the knowledge to keep the students relatively free of behavioral challenges in school. Is this enough? Is the inclusive setting we have chosen really inclusive or is it postponing a restrictive setting? Will the student leave school with real skills or just the ability to sit in a group? Participants in this workshop will address a number of issues through a Three Curricula Model. Participants will leave the workshop better equipped to deal successfully with the challenges of inclusion and to make the best choice for their students.

New! Classroom/Program Consultation, Training, Coaching, and Development Package
This new service provides a complete school year program. We start early in the year with training designed for your site. We provide skilled consultation and coaching throughout the year on an agreed on schedule. The number of visits ranges from five full days through thirty visits. Each visit concludes with Rapid Notes Reports, which offer practical suggestions and ideas that can be implemented quickly and targets for the next visit.

At the end of the year a final report is developed and the school has the option of selecting our three-day Asperger's/Autism seminar to wrap up and plan for the coming year. In addition, any district that has contracted for this package receives two free parent information and training sessions. This package provides training for staff, ongoing development and implementation of that training, confidence for administrators in the quality of their program, and gains for students. While this service represents a "package" of services, it is custom designed for each participating district. It may include one classroom and team or a number of classrooms or programs.
